Undying Time

The 70th Anniversary of the Hungarian State Folk Ensemble

Dance Concert

"It has passed like a hundred other moments, and yet we know that it is undying, because it survives through hearts, not words" - the everlasting thought of György Végh offered the Hungarian State Folk Ensemble a concept for the staging of the dance concert entitled Undying Time.

We, the people of tradition, have preserved countless moments shared with peasant people over the years. Memories that we carry around like a hidden gem, only to pop up at the most unexpected moments to shed a light on our everyday lives.

We invite the audience to experience such moments together. To meet the last representatives of a seemingly vanishing culture: singers, musicians, dancers. Showing the hope that passing is only an apparent state, as there is a continuation, with new generations always replacing the older ones.

The Ensemble, celebrating the 70th anniversary of its foundation, will perform its performance titled Undying Time together with the most outstanding Hungarian and national traditionalists from the Carpathian Basin, as well as folk artists, musicians, singers and dancers from many countries of Europe and Central Asia. The performance presents in a spectacular and tangible way the interdependencies and national specificities that are so characteristic of (and not only) the universal European peasant culture.
