Az 1764-es madéfalvi veszedelem után tömegesen kivándorló székelyek Bukovinában öt települést hoztak létre. Az egyikből, Istensegíts faluból származnak azok az énekesek, akik 1946-ban végül a mai Bács-Kiskun megyei Csátalján találtak új otthonra. A hosszú ideig tartó nyelvi elszigeteltség sok archaikus vonást őrzött meg kultúrájukban, ami dallamkészletükben is tetten érhető: az újabb zenei hatások megjelenése mellett számos régi székely dallamtípus maradt fenn, amelyeket az 1954-ben Kiss Lajos, Kertész Gyula és Lugossy Emma által végzett gyűjtés anyagában hallgathatunk meg. A gyűjtés technikai érdekessége, hogy felvételt Webster-magnóval készítették, ami a mágneses hangrögzítés úttörőjének számító módon drótra rögzítette a jeleket. A későbbi szalagos magnókhoz hasonlóan lényegesen jobb minőségű hangrögzítést tett lehetővé, mint az azt megelőzően használt fonográf.
