Plan your summer with the help of the Folknaptár camp list
In the summer of 2026, numerous folk music and folk dance camps will once again welcome participants in the Carpathian Basin and the diaspora. The offerings include camps for children, youth, adults, and families. Details about the camps are available in the Folknaptár, a community-edited calendar maintained by the Hungarian Heritage House.
These summer programs offer opportunities for learning, relaxation, and fun from late June through mid-August.
The lineup includes events with a long-standing tradition, such as the Bagpipe School Camp, the Egyszólam Folk Music Camp, the Métatábor, the Téka Folk Art Camp, the Kalotaszeg Folk Music and Dance Camp, and the Gyimes Dance Camp. With the help of experienced instructors, participants can learn about the musical and dance traditions of various regions.
Special attention should be given to family and children’s programs, which pass on traditions to younger generations in a playful way, as well as to those camps—for example, in Mezőség, Kalotaszeg, Gyimes, or Marosszék—where the programs are more closely tied to local traditions and the presence of villagers is an integral part of daily camp life.
Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced musician or dancer, everyone can find a program that suits them. The camps offer not only professional development but also lifelong experiences, friendships, and a sense of community. It’s a good idea to get informed and register early, as spots at the most popular camps fill up quickly.
Detailed information about the camps can be found in the Folknaptár, available at folknaptar.hu We’ve also compiled a separate list of “overnight” camps, which currently includes 69 camps. (Anyone who registers on the Folknaptár website can add to this list.)
Let’s meet at the summer camps and experience together the community-building power of folk music and folk dance!
