In addition to mastering and transmitting authentic folk music, I find it important to explore all the possibilities given by the citera. I find it very important and consider it my purpose, to convince people that the citera is a very technical instrument, that has its place on stage, at festivals, and that isn't exclusive to folk music, but can be used in anything, from jazz to classical music through blues! This is what we are trying to achieve with my duo, ZitheRandom. I have participated in several folk music contests where I earned several prizes, Golden Peacock, Golden qualification. I consider being one of the finalists of the Fölszállott a Páva (Takeoff of the Peacock) folk music and folk dancing talent show to be my greatest achievement.
During my concerts, I aim to present the different uses of the citera, using the traditional playing techniques that can be found in the different Hungarian-speaking regions. Other instruments also show up for a few pieces. Moldavian tilinka (an overtone flute) for havajgatás and öves songs, violin for bagpipe imitation, singing and koboz for dancing songs also from Moldavia. (Moldavia is a region nowadays in Romania, where native Hungarian speakers are living. Not to be confused with Moldova, the country.)
Apart from the concerts, I find it important to create something durable in my home city and its surrounding area. The goal of the many Moldavian dance clubs that I organize is for the participants to form a strong community by opening up to each other during the dance and singing lessons.
I'm currently pursuing my studies in the Liszt Ferenc Music Academy of Budapest in the citera/koboz/hurdy-gurdy - folk violin department.
