From game to mastery

If an apprentice wanted to turn into a master, he had to excel.

When the apprentice announced his wish to become a master, the guild council set a task for him. When the masterpiece was completed, the guild masters jointly observed and assessed the piece. If it was acceptable, the inauguration as a master followed, and the apprentice turned into a master himself and could open his own workshop.

 Visitors can see true masterpieces

Although we don't inaugurate masters, it is indisputable that at this exhibition, our visitors can see true masterpieces  - works that comply with the highest professional and aesthetic standards. This exhibit will present the characteristic features of the professional training of the Hungarian Heritage House through the masterpieces of the students of our traditional handicraft courses in felt-making, basket-weaving, weaving, carpet-weaving, rush-matting, husk and straw-work.

The legacy of traditional handicrafts

We will catch a glimpse into the acquisition process of the technical finesses of the above trades, the thrill of fieldwork, and the complex mindset with which today's people need to observe the legacy of traditional handicrafts. The exciting spaces of the exhibit will also show how these objects can be used in a 21st-century apartment.

It is no secret that we intend for the masterpieces of the newly qualified 47 artisans to raise the interest of visitors in traditional handicrafts, either as the daily users of these objects or as future trainees of our craft courses.

Exhibition opening will take place on 11 July 2024 at 5 pm

The exhibition can be visited with a valid ticket from 12 July to 25 September 2024, during opening hours from Tuesday to Sunday between 10 am and 6 pm. With the entrance ticket, visitors can also view the Hungarian Heritage House's permanent exhibition, "Scents, Flavours and Shapes."
