The event series of the Hungarian Heritage House, called “Choreographers in Spotlight”, focuses on oustanding stage folk dance choreographers.
Everyone who wanted to visit Transylvania in the 70s or 80s had to take the Balt Orient Express train. One of the passengers included a youngster from Transylvania, and one from Budapest, both of them with the aim of experience, learn and collect authentic, live folk music and dance pieces. These were the experiences that formed the choreography works of László Diószegi and Árpád Könczei; they relied on these adventures upon producing their stage performances. Besides the authentic portrayal and depiction of folk tradition, both artists had a major interest in showing the social environment as well; their works show signs of etnographic sensitivity, which allows us to get a more accurate glimpse into a traditional culture of a world that will soon disappear forever.
