The historical opera and ballet called “Jász People (Jászok)” introduces, through the participation of more than 100 performers and contributors, the very complex and unbelievably exciting history of Jász people, their versatile skills and talents. The program tells the story of the Jász identity and solidarity. The joint spectacle features treasures and works of various artists and groups, including choruses, bands, dance ensembles and painters. Solo dancers, vocals and musicians were selected from the most outstanding folk music and opera artists, as well as among the talented youth that gained recognition through participating in the contest of “Fölszállott a páva (The Flying Peacock)”.
The plot of the performance evolves around the legacy of Jász philosophy of life over seven decades. It focuses on a young couple of today, whose past resurfaces during the piece. Their microcosm is then reflected through the history of Jász people; the respective scenes depict past events from the early times until today. The two lovers are separated from each other by historical events now and then, but in the end, their loyalty and desire for freedom always triumphs. Their story becomes one with the history of Jász people during this performance, just like the past becomes one with the present, or how purity meets temptation. The seven generations are represented by seven main characters; one of them, called the Wiseman, depicts the past of Jász people, while the child protagonists evoke images of the future.
