Spring Choir Con­cert / György Or­bán: Stabat ma­ter (in d)

In the large-scale oratorio Stabat mater (in d) by György Orbán, composed for soprano and alto solo, mixed choir and orchestra, the sinner who wants to take the guilt for the death and suffering of Jesus on the cross passionately and impulsively begs for the mediation of the Virgin Mary, who is mourning her son. Attributed to Jacopone da Todi (1236-1306), a franciscan monk, the sequentia has been set to music by such composers as Josquin, Palestrina, A. Scarlatti, G. Pergolesi, A. Vivaldi, J. Haydn, F. Schubert, G. Rossini, Ferenc Liszt, A. Dvořák or Ernő Dohnányi. The piece will be performed by the prominent Vass Lajos Choir of the Vasas Art Ensemble, and the St. Anna Choir, which was founded in Leányfalu almost 20 years ago as a local initiative and is already renowned in the Danube Bend, featuring solos by Orsolya Gheorgita (soprano) and Orsolya Bagosi (alto), with the contribution of the Alba Regia Symphony Orchestra of Székesfehérvár (led byPéter Dobszay), conducted by Dániel Szűcs, Artistic Director of the Vass Lajos Choir.
