A Nation United Through Music - Béla Halmos Memorial Concert

"I used to say that I was born on the anniversary of the Trianon peace treaty
to unite the Hungarian nation with my violin torn apart by Trianon."

Béla Halmos, one of the founders of the dance house movement and its First Violinist, would celebrate his 76th birthday on 4 June this year.

During his many decades of activity, Béla Halmos worked tirelessly for the cause of Hungarian folk culture and the dance house movement, both as a folklore collector and as a leader of the urban revival movement. He was the First Violinist of the Sebő and later Kalamajka Ensembles, a member of the Institute of Musicology, honorary president of the Dance House Association, founder of the National Dance House Meeting, founder of the Dance House Archive, and one of the founders and lecturers of the Folk Music Department at the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music.

The Béla Halmos Memorial Award and the Béla Halmos Memorial Medal will be presented at the memorial concert on 4 June.

The concert shall, among others, feature performances of: Lajos Pál and his students, Balázs Szokolay Dongó, Ildikó Bárdosi and Miklós Molnár, the Musician Ensemble, the Vigad Ensemble, Márton Filali and his band, the BorFolk band and Katica Manninger, Anna Sőregi, the Fokos Band
