The Hungarian State Folk Ensemble at the World Expo in Dubai

The Dubai World Expo (EXPO 2020, Dubai) was held from 1 October 2021 to 31 March 2022. The theme of the World Expo was "Connecting Minds, Creating the Future", with three subcategories - Mobility, Opportunity, and Sustainability – selected by the organizers as drivers of development that connect people, organizations, and countries in their efforts to create a better future.
Hungary was represented at the expo with a unique pavilion, inspired by the legacy of Makovecz. The Hungarian State Folk Ensemble performed for two days at the invitation of Expo 2020 Hungary as part of the National Week program organized by the Hungarian Pavilion:
On 16 March, the Ensemble performed the Dance Canon (Tánckánon) on the Jubilee Stage to rave reviews, and on 18 March, it presented the performance of A Pure Spring (Tiszta forrás) directed by Csaba Káel, on the stage of the Dubai Millennium Arena. This performance, featuring Mesi Guessous, the Győr Ballet and the Hungarian State Folk Ensemble, presented some of the most characteristic pieces of Bartók's oeuvre through the connection between Arabic and Hungarian music, with a special focus on the relationship between music and dance.
