Long Live the Country!

The memorial exhibition showcases the historical significance of 1848-49, with graphic art from Kossuth-award winner Győző Somogyi, presenting both national heroes and soldiers. For this exhibition, we have selected items from the material of the Museum of Applied Hungarian Folk Art, that are in some way connected to the remembrance of 1848-49. A particular interesting element of exhibition will be a selection of soldier portraits made in 1902, by József Plohn (1869-1944), a photographer from Hódmezővásárhely. The photos were made taken of then still living 1848-49 soldiers, precisely 154 veterans, at an invitation by the National Historical Artifact-Museum of Kolozsvár in 1902, for the 100-year anniversary of the birth of Lajos Kossuth, of which a total of 24 will be available for viewing.
