Be(a)ds of Roses - Folk Jewellery in the 21st Century

Folk jewellery exhibition

The Museum of Hungarian Applied Folk Art's jewellery collection consists of pieces inspired by folk motifs and produced by 20th—and 21st-century folk artisans and designers. Their works combine the interactivity of contemporary material use with modern reflections on folk motifs. They have never been on display together, visible to the general public, so this exhibit is a real treat at a very special venue.

Folk jewellery can be earrings, rings, bracelets, and necklaces, depending on which body part it embellishes. The ornaments represent the financial status and social rank of their wearers, but sometimes healing properties were also attributed to them (e.g., amulets).

The exhibition is open only with a guided tour, at announced times.

Duration of the guided tour: ~45-50 minutes. We can accommodate up to 15 people per guided tour. Please contact us to book an appointment of a guided tour in English.

Please note that using the cloakroom is free of charge and, for safety reasons, mandatory.

Please leave your luggage, umbrella and bags exceeding 30x25x15 centimetres in our cloakroom. Inside the exhibition room, no bag can be worn on your back, and small backpacks can only be worn in front or in hand. Jackets must be put on; they cannot be slung over your arm or shoulder. Should you not wish to put it on, please leave it in our cloakroom.
